stephmodo: Organizing Tip #1

Organizing Tip #1

• 03 October 2007

I love to "edit" my living space, but clearly I am not editing enough. Almost every cupboard, closet or drawer I open appears to be in a disastrous state. I know I can't tackle it all at once, so I'm going to do it bit by bit and I'm going to drag you along with me :)

Organizing Tip #1

Make your bed each day.

According to Julie Morgenstern, author of Organizing from the Inside Out, "Don’t think of [organization] as 'putting things away,' but think of it as positioning [something] for its next use." Treat your bed as the sanctuary it is by positioning it for use every day. If you spend three minutes each morning to tuck and fold, you'll develop a habit of keeping order in the room, which may translate into motivation for picking up the pile of clothes on the floor.

  1. mmmmm...I like that. "Don't think of it as organizing but repositioning it". That is one thing I do EVERY morning. Make my bed! I may NOT make my bed perhaps twice a year.

  3. Hello!

I've just found your blog, which I like and find contains nice ideas.
I loved your: "Treat your bed as the sanctuary it is by positioning it for use every day."
I've never thought of it like that! ...I mean, I almost always do my bed... but sometimes I did it late in the afternoon... or did it with lazziness... but thinking it a a sanctuary I'm getting ready for next use, is a nice shift of mindset. Thanks!!
