A Baby Shower for Marin
• 14 December 2009
I recently threw a shower for my friend, Marin, and just in the nick of time too...she gave birth two and a half weeks early! The inspiration for the color theme was a pretty Japonese chiyogami paper I bought in San Francisco's Japantown two years ago. I've been saving for the right occasion, and this was it!
The shower was an evening shower so I served a mix of sweet and savory plates (mostly sweet!):
* Lemon Cupcakes with Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting
* Baguette slices with store-bought dip--Alouette Artichoke + Garlic
* Gingerbread Pumpkin Mousse Trifle (deserves it's own post...soon)
* Crudités with Herb Buttermilk Dip
* Fresh raspberries
* Milk shots with Chocolate Chip Cookies
Decorations for Marin's shower were simple...white tulips...a garland across the fireplace...and mini-pom-poms hanging over the table. Less is usually more, right? When it comes to games I am always torn. I like the idea of a little mixer, but it can be challenging to find a game that isn't silly. I loved Brooke's idea of a little questionaire, so I went with it and loved it. I'll definitely add that to my list of shower "musts". One last note on details...with all of us holding identical water bottles, I wanted to make sure there was a way to keep track of our drinks. I decided to make each guest a little nametag to wrap around the neck of her water bottle. It worked...no mix ups!
did the mommy questionaire earlier this year for a friend and we all loved that idea too. looks like a beautiful shower.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite touch are the cookies on top of the milk shots! So cute and easy. And I love how clean and classy and delicious your table looks. I'm taking notes.
ReplyDeleteThe cookies with milk are genius.. and I'm so glad you liked the questionaire. Looks like a lovely shower.
ReplyDeleteWow. You do parties right. One of the best I've seen. I'm dying over the card with the onesie. Too cute!
ReplyDeleteThis shower looks completely gorgeous! The color scheme and that lovely oriental print is absolutely fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWow, everything looks amazing! Would you mind sharing more detail on how you did the cookies and milk...where you found the glasses, was it a problem keeping it cold, etc. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty baby shower! Love all of the attention to detail.
ReplyDeleteVery classy!!
ReplyDeleteLindsey,
ReplyDeleteI used my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, but tried to make them smaller. I wasn't all that successful, but hopefully the second time will be better! I used plastic glasses I brought back from France, but I bet you could find glass shot glasses here in the US. When I set up I had all the glasses ready to go, same with the cookies. Just before guests arrived I poured milk into the glasses and then arranged them on the platter. Hope that helps!
Stephanie--Any ideas on where to get simple, classic serving dishes? Yours look great!
ReplyDeleteAngie, those serving dishes are actually my dinner plates! I love them. I've converted from Williams-Sonoma to these porcelain ones from Target. They are very sturdy and great quality for the price point. Plus, they double as serving plates too! I just checked for them online and I don't see them anymore, but I wonder if they carry them in stores. You may want to look. Crate & Barrel also offers great white square dishes/platters too. I'd love a few of those at some point myself :)
ReplyDeleteThe cookie-covered milk shots remind me of traditional tortilla tapas -- very clever.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I LOVE this post. The food, the decorations, the colors--everything looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie! What great dinner plates. I've seen the dishes at Crate and Barrell and they're really cute--I'll check out Target too.
