stephmodo: Organizing Tip #13

Organizing Tip #13

• 17 June 2008

Replace all your random plastic and metal hangers with wood hangers for a unified look in your closet.

And while you're at it, get rid of some unworn, no-longer wanted/needed clothing too!

Last year I rid my closet of all its metal and plastic hangers and replaced them with wooden hangers. I couldn't believe the effect. This small change increased my motivation to continue on with the closet and I added a few shoe organizers too. It's still no California Closet to be sure, but I'm frequently surprised at how tidy {and stylish} everything looks when hung on these pretty hangers.

You used to be able to purchase both skirt and shirt wooden hangers at the Nordstrom Rack, but in the past few months I've only seen shirt hangers there. I'm hoping that will change since I need a few more myself. You can also find wooden hangers at IKEA, but again, just the shirt hangers. The price points at both places are within pennies of each other--about $3.50 for a package of 6.

  1. I've been converting over to wooden hangers, picking up a bunch whenever they catch my eye at N.R. or Ikea. Love them. I noticed you can also get a pack of 50 at Costco - although they're a darker shade of wood. Maybe you've just inspired me to finally complete my conversion!

  3. I just went to IKEA in Draper and stocked up--I've been wanting to make the conversion for a long time. They had the regular shirt hangers 8/$3.50, coat hangers $2, pant hangers $1, and skirt hangers $1.

  4. Last time I went to Ikea I found not only wooden shirt hangers but also skirt and suit hangers! Maybe it's a regional thing but keep checking because they may soon offer them there!
