stephmodo: Little Shopping Guide to Paris

Little Shopping Guide to Paris

• 16 August 2008

There are many wonderful shops in Paris, but these are the ones that I like to make sure I visit on the rare occasion I am in France. Just like in the U.S., I love a great deal and they are to be had, surprisingly, even in Paris.

Monoprix.

What I like: pajamas, slippers, children's clothing, Bourjois makeup (Chanel's bargain line), and Petit Bateau goodies.

Galleries Lafayette.

What I like: Lots of cute clothes to drool over. I often walk out empty handed but sometimes there is a great deal to be had. It is so beautiful inside though, one must at least try! They often have decent stationery, unique hosiery and a great swimsuit collection. The basement is often where you'll find the bargains. My one regret is not finding a delicious perfume.

BHV.

What I like: stationery, home decor and the view from their "cafeteria" on the top floor. It's the best mass-produced food selection you'll ever find! The views are unbeatable.

Kookai.

What I like: Stylish knits and outerwear.

Noa Noa.

What I like: their sale rack. It's the only time I go really. You'll find sales twice yearly in France (they are government regulated) around January and July.

Du Pareil au Meme.

What I like: boutique-y children's clothing at Baby Gap prices. As always, I tend to find more in the "girls" section than "boys". I could go nuts.

Habitat

I love their toys, linens, shower curtains, everything. If you'd like to read up on a post about this store, click here.

The gal behind the excellent blog, Print & Pattern, posted several fantastic entries about Paris. She featured several small & lovely shops and I wrote down a few to track down. Good news...I tracked about five of them down. Bad news? Most of them were closed for the month. August is the time of year when most French (and many other Europeans for that matter) take a vacation so many of the smaller businesses & restaurants are closed the entire month. Next time...Lou Lou Addict & Yukiko are top on my list next time. Check out the Print & Pattern blog for all the juicy details.
