Since both my husband and I weren't able to celebrate Mother's Day with our own moms last year, I created a little package for each of them to enjoy on the morning of Mother's Day. Basically the gift was "breakfast in bed" or rather, "breakfast in a box". Inside each package was a large red gable box containing the following:
* a cellophane bag containing granola; I tied it with a pretty ribbon and a tag. Last year I bought some granola at Whole Foods but recently I made the Barefoot Contessa recipe for homemade granola and loved it. It was labor-intensive with all the chopping but delicious just the same.
* a mug with good herbal tea inside
* a little card
If you don't live near your own mother, it might be fun to assemble this simple gift today and ship it off via Priority mail...just in time for Mother's Day.

I'm hosting a brunch at my house after my son's baptism and this sounds perfect. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!!! I made some of Barefoot Contessa's Orange Marmalade (very good, but it does take 2 days to complete) to send to my mom and I couldn't think of what else to send with it...granola and tea would have been perfect. I'm definitely filing this idea away.
ReplyDeleteWe did this last year and the moms loved it!!
ReplyDeleteOh, sigh. Sigh. And Sigh some more.
ReplyDeleteWhere was this idea midweek, when my mind was not e'en NEAR approaching the holiday? Next year, I vow to not procrastinate (and to most definitely make this.)
Loveliest idea, eva.
THANKS!
