stephmodo: Affordable French Children's Clothes

Affordable French Children's Clothes

• 07 January 2010

In France the sales ("Les Soldes") are regulated by the government and happen only twice each year. Yesterday marked the first day of an almost month-long country-wide sale...hip hip hooray! Nine years ago we hit Paris in early January and boy, did we find some wonderful deals. But, guess what? You don't have to visit France to take advantage of these semi-annual sales, you can enjoy them online too.

One of my favorite French retailers for children's clothing is Du Pareil au Meme. I've found some great pieces there over the years and never spent more than 20€ on anything. Often I found tops, skirts, and even dresses for under 10€. You may have to sift through a few collections as the French are not immune from producing overpriced licensed clothing :)

A few things in my cart...this top, this nightgown, and this cape. If you live in the US your only option for shipping is international priority, which is both good and bad. Your clothing will arrive quickly (3-6 days), but you will spend about 21€. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get together with a friend and split the shipping. Oh, and if you don't speak French, pas de problème. The site is available in English too. FYI: today's exchange rate is $1.43 to 1€.

  1. I really like them too, and always stop by when I am back home. And it never occurred to me that I could shop online! But unfortunately for Americans, the exchange rate is actually 1 euro to $1.43...

  2. Geraldine, thanks for the heads up...it must've been a Freudian slip...I was wishing the exchange rate was a little better :)

  5. I went crazy in their store last year, love the clothes and they fit my kids perfectly. The clothes are so affordable I think it justifies the horrible shipping cost.

Plus, it's so fun to get a package in the mail that says "Madame" before your name.

  6. I shopped there (for friends with girls) while in Paris a year ago - truly is divine . . . come to think of it I got dreamy socks and jammies for the boys!

Thanks for the reminder - it reminded me of fun times in paris!

  7. I love dpam clothing and ordered some stuff this fall but believe me it did NOT take 3-6 days to arrive to NYC. customs problems meant it was returned to france, then re-shipped to me and then sat in customs for about a month! there were all sorts of complications and I had to email dpam and call their customs agents many times to move things along. and then there was the 10% duty i had to pay! worth it to a crazy person like me but for most people it would be a bit much! fair warning.

  10. Thank you so much for the info on this darling site. I ordered on Thursday and my order arrived today! (Chicago). The quality is wonderful, and the boys clothes were so cute. I think it is hard to find really cute stuff for boys. I mean really, one can only wear so many polo shirts and Star Wars costumes! :)
