Interior Fix: Bursts of Color
• 02 November 2010
As I consider my new living space here in Seattle (we finally nailed down a place to move to come next week!), I'm reconsidering my usual penchant for neutrals. I think one has to consider one's environment when considering design choices and since mine is a bit on the grey side, perhaps more pops of color are in order. It's a little more out-of-the-box for me, but I'm going to try and get cozy with a little more color :)
What are some of your favorite ways to add color to a space?

ReplyDeleteAs long as color is balanced with plenty of neutrals, like your photo, I think it looks really lovely. Can't wait to see photos of your new place!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Seattle! I live not too far away in Auburn, WA, about 30 min. drive from Seattle depending on traffic. I love those bright bursts of color. Mixed with all the white, I don't think it is too overwhelming. Go for color! You might need it to cheer you up in the rainy season.
ReplyDeleteI love textiles against bigger neutrals--throw pillows, curtains, and rugs. Most of my larger pieces are fairly neutral, as are my walls, but one thing people always comment on when they come in my home is how colorful it is, and it's really thanks to those smaller (interchangeable) pieces.
ReplyDeleteI also like to display colorful serving ware; I know you posted about nesting bowls a few weeks back, and I've found that I use mine so much more when I have them out and functioning as another punch of color.
Wall art! Have you checked out Ava Lisa's canvases? I have them in both of my kids rooms, and the family room. Also, west elm throw pillows! Love 'em. Can't wait to see your new house - you'll show us a tour, right?!
ReplyDeleteWIth the grey weather in Seattle, I think you will totally enjoy the pop of color! Great thing is that you can always change the accent:)

that is a great room! thanks for sharing. good luck with the move!
ReplyDeleteFor a little slice of bedroom color, I am a sucker for colorful sheets and pillowcases. Garnet Hill and The Company Store are some of my favorite sources for high-quality linens.
ReplyDeleteI love color! You probably realized that from my house :)
ReplyDeleteLately I have been inspired by white or light colored walls with most of the color being in the accessories.
Like the photo you posted. It will be fun to see what you come up with!
I actually love to add a little color to rooms by painting the walls. If the whole room is too much, then go for an accent wall, but I think it adds so much to the space. But in my more neutral rooms, like my kitchen, I add color by displaying my dishes or hanging my bright aprons.
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming little room! Nothing like a move to get one to change things up!
ReplyDeleteI personally find adding in burst of colors with things that are easy to change works best for me... things like pillows, throws, etc.
I am a HUGE fan of hot pink with orange and gold. So I am loving the rug in the picture!
ReplyDeleteI also agree about Garnet Hill, a big fave of mine for colorful decos.
I looove color,i painted my dining room in 6 month intervals;-) first yellow, then brown, then turquoise;-)

I am smitten with this color scheme...I am a little obsessed with color. My house might have too much, HAHA!
ReplyDeleteI love white with splashes of ecclectic colorful patterns here and there. My grandma's kitchen was so adorable, all white in different textures from wicker to her wooden bird cage, but with this big colorful Matisse print on the wall (that had a lot of pink in it!). my grandma had such awesome taste.
ReplyDeleteSteph- do ou have ay idea who makes these great yellow table lamps? I'm trying to find them for my bedroom. Thx, Lee
ReplyDeleteHi Lee,
ReplyDeleteI am not sure where these lamps are from, but you can find similar lamps at Pottery Barn and PB Teen I believe.
Good luck!
