My niece and nephew rolled into town yesterday for a quick visit en route to Seattle from Maryland. My kids hadn't seen them for 14 months so it was a happy reunion to say the least. It reminded me how much I miss living by my family. Oh well, at least we're only a day away now!
To celebrate their arrival we put together little suitcases filled with "diversions" for the last leg of their cross country trip. Not that they need it as they are both excellent travelers, but it's always fun to have something new when you're a kid...okay so maybe as adults too! I was so proud of E. for giving up (without coercion) many of her prized possessions, including a "picture book", a butterfly drawing, a stationery box, and all her money she's been saving. It was a good lesson for me and a gentle reminder to always be giving.
how great that your kids are willing to give up some of their things. what a great lesson for serving others unselfishly.
ReplyDeleteWow -such a great idea. And even better, it's a teaching lesson. We're going to have to get you to babysit more when our boy's older so he can have some of these good morals rubbed off on him.
ReplyDeleteWhat cool dad picked out that John Deere hat for his son?! Oh wait, that was me.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the suitcases. It made the 12 hour drive to Wenatchee much easier.
