I recently had an epiphany...
...most of my favorite indie films revolve around artfully prepared food and they also make me very very very hungry--like I need to head to Gary Danko (tried and true!), Chez Panisse, Per Se or French Laundry. I know, I know....such high standards these are! That being said, what's a gal without a dream?
All of these are available on Netflix and at any major video retailer for that matter. Enjoy!
Babette's Feast (Danish, Swedish, French)
Eat Drink Man Woman (Mandarin)
Mostly Martha (German, Italian)
* Did I miss any?
Did you know that Hollywood remade "Mostly Martha" as "No Reservations" with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Aaron Eckhart? I saw the preview and instantly recognized the story. It does not look as good as the original to me, but most Americans don't like subtitles I guess...
ReplyDeleteComo Agua Para Chocolate (Like Water For Chocolate)! A Mexican classic, though I think it's an R. Sometimes it's on tv. There is also a book.
ReplyDeleteBabette's Feast is an all time favorite of mine, a truly beautiful film. No one ever knows about it when I mention it, so high five to you! Another one with a sense of humor...Big Night, about two brothers trying to make a success of their Italian restaurant.
