While I accept the fact that this trip is not going to be a real sight-seeing trip, I do want to make sure I hit old favorites and check out a few new spots too. You know, an antique store off the beaten path, or a boutique with fantastic goods, or patisserie with to-die-for apricotines. I'd love to know what you consider "treasures" in Paris...that is, if you're willing to share :)

Are you going with your kids? We planned a trip two years ago when we were in England to Paris but we ran out of time to hop over there so I know some fun tips with kids (like how to cut your time in line at the Eiffel Tower in half).
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to take my girls to the Musee D'Orsay and let them see all the Degas ballerina statues.
If you are sans kids I hear bike riding there is lots of fun. I want to take my husband running around the city in the am like I did on study abroad - seeing the sun rise on the steps of the Sacre Coeur is unforgettable. Have a fabulous trip!!!!

Cross the street from the Louvre to the Montalembert Hotel that is tucked away on a quiet alley. From there we walked through some fun local shopping streets to the Luxembourg Gardens, and my favorite, La Sorbonne (University of Paris). My family has history there- my great grandfather was a painter and portrait artist, and during the war studied and taught art at this university. We even poked around inside the buildings and empty classrooms, and had lunch outside with the students on the patio. From the University, a short walk to a local main street lined with book stores and great restaurants :-)

You need to email Jordan at the blog - oh happy day. (www.jordanferney.blogspot.com) Her friend put together a 12 page document on Paris and it is fabulous - perfect mix of tourist and non-tourist things to do. She did post about it on her blog, but the best thing to do would be to email.
ReplyDeleteMy visits to Paris have all be unique, and I can't remember a single name of a place or street where I discovered something unique or wonderful (seems like those discoveries are literally around every corner there). And even though those trips were before kids, I do remember thinking that some day I would take my own children there and let them float boats upon the pond in the jardins du luxembourg.
ReplyDeleteHave fun! My kids still talk about our picnic by the Seine. It really is the simple things that the kids enjoy the most! Au Revior!
ReplyDeletePerhaps to some it may be morbid, but I love the cemeteries there. Especially the Pere LeChaise (sp). It's a massive cemetery, but it is also one of the most beautiful treasures I found in my travels there.

I am going with my 3 year old daughter for one week - as are my sister and her little girl. We are doing similar research. Great Kids in Paris articles from Washington Post + Boston Globe. We should share notes!
