a Night in Napa

• 15 July 2008

Some of the Husband's former co-workers are tying the knot at the C.I.A. this October. We are heading out for the wedding and are searching for some accommodations in the area. While we've visited Napa Valley often, we have never stayed overnight. Does anyone have a little B&B or other kind of similar lodging that you'd like to recommend? We're open to staying in St. Helena, Calistoga, anywhere in the area really...

In Sonoma not Napa but very nice - great rooms and bathrooms. For adults, not really family friendly per se. Kenwood Inn & Spa - www.kenwoodinn.com

Melita Station Inn in Santa Rosa is wonderful. Plus she makes the best breakfast! Went there once for our anniversary and have been dreaming of it since. 707-538-7712. Also on-line.

You can always have FREE accomodations just 45 minutes away! We liked Scarlett's near Calistoga. It's nice but not fancy. The food was good and the hostess was very interesting.

Something else funny about "the CIA"....Our B and B hostess, Scarlett, was talking about some guest being from there, and we were both thinking: Why would people from the CIA be here in Napa Valley? She looked at us in disbelief when we asked her about it! It just seemed so funny to us that it was referred to there as "the CIA"! We were imagining some spy-types having some kind of special training there in the Valley! Now we know...... ;-)

I haven't been there yet, but my husband and I are trying this place in September, as he's going to a conference at the CIA then. I was told it is about 20 minutes away...

We just stayed in Sonoma at Cottage in the Vines. (http://www.cottageinthevines.com/) It's a one bedroom cottage and the hosts are so sweet and lovely. We love staying in Sonoma because their downtown is so cute. We've also stayed at The Lodge at Sonoma (a Marriott Resort). That was very nice!

This might be a little bit of a drive but it's a pretty drive! The town of Healdsburg (about 45 miles north of Napa) has a great hotel, Hotel Healdsburg (www.hotelhealdsburg.com). Plus in town is the BEST little French bakery called Costeaux French Bakery (www.costeaux.com)...yum!!

The Vintage Inn in Yountville is GREAT (http://www.vintageinn.com/vintageinn/home.html). It's a sister hotel, I think, to the pricier Villagio, which is alsosupposed to be exceptional. Anyway, back to the Vintage Inn, we spent a weekend there for our anniversary a few years back and we loved it. Big rooms, great soaking tub, comfy bed, and walking distance to some stellar restaurants, including the world-renowned French Laundry,
Bistro Jeanty, Bouchon, and Hurley's Bar & Grill. Google it!

I like the Villagio Inn and Spa for a hotel room, but not for a spa. Great grounds, breakfast was yummy, quiet and yet across the street and next to lots of good food :)
