Worst Foods in America
• 23 January 2009
Bitten, a blog in the New York Time's Dining & Wine section, shares with readers the 20 Worst Foods in America. Aren't you just a little curious? I was.
All I can say {after reading the list] is I am grateful I've boycotted Chili's for about 8 years now. However, I admit I was surprised that Macaroni Grill menu items made it on this list several times. I haven't eaten there for almost a decade, but from what I remember, it was pretty yummy for a chain restaurant. Either I am remembering incorrectly or they've gone downhill since...
In any case I think it's always better to support local restaurants versus chains. You end up with better, healthier food in the end. Awhile back I posted about my favorite restaurants here in Salt Lake City...if you're looking for a new date night option check these out.
I feel a little sick reading all of that. I'm totally boycotting places like that, most of them I already have!
ReplyDeleteYou have to remember that most of these entrees have extremely large portions(which explains why America is so obese), so if you actually only eat a 1/3-1/2 of what you are served, the nutrition is reasonable, not the best but reasonable.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I look forward to reading this. And if I had not eaten at Macaroni Grill in the past 5 or so years, I would also be surprised, but since I have, I can agree...it's totally gone downhill, unfortunately. So it's a good thing it hasn't lured you back recently. ;)
ReplyDeleteSteph,
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely appalled by this list. What an "eye-opener". Thanks for the post. No more Quizno's tuna melts for me..... and to think, I thought I was making a healthy choice. I'm disgusted right now...
I just recently bought the book related to this site. It's a quick, informative little book that gives you some good suggestons of better things to order at those restaurants. Who knew that onion rings were healthier than french fries?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to bitten.com. I just saw the book, Food Matters, at the book store. I want to read it and have it on my list. Now. I have the link to his blog:)
