It had been almost a decade since I last visited the Orsay. It was just as lovely as I remembered; perhaps even more so. We were also happy to discover the first Sunday of every month = free admission for all. How perfect for the last day of our budget trip! Free parking all day in the city didn't hurt either.
p.s. If you have a Tom Tom or other gps system, renting a car and driving around Paris can be very enjoyable. I highly recommend this form of "getting around" if you are comfortable with city driving. It's such a blast to cruise along the Seine with all the locals and to catch more glimpses of this beautiful city than you would underground. Renting a car also allows a lot of freedom when traveling as you are not limited by train schedules. Just a thought...
1- interior of the Musee d'Orsay
2- an outstanding sculpture; next to my favorite Klimt painting
3- pretty art nouveau pieces, a serene interior, and a closeup of the ceiling
I also love the Musee d'Orsay. I have loved all of your Paris posts - it makes me want to go back right away!
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite art museum. Did you eat lunch there? Their restaurant is so lovely. One of my top 2 restaurant experiences ever.
ReplyDeleteIt was our favorite in Paris! Loved it!
ReplyDeleteSome many wonderful placed to visit in Paris, but the Orsay is always my favorite. Thank you for posting all of the lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThis was one of my favorite stops.
ReplyDeletePS - Don't you love how the French museums let you take pictures of the art? They do not allow that in London, which is where I went a week after Paris... I was so bummed!
Ooo la la! La Musee d'Orsay c'est magnifique!
ReplyDeleteThat top photo (interior with clock) is stunning. Definitely one to blow up and admire.
Have they finally taken down that atrocious black stairwell built-out next to the clock?
It was a magical place for me. And I love the same Klimt, also. My heart just aches to go back!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I went to Paris in 1969 we stayed in the Musee d' Orsay! Then it was a huge hotel, remodeled from a train station. It amazes me how well the French recycle buildings.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed your trip vicariously through your wonderful photos. I would be terrified to drive in Paris, though! You are an adventurous traveler. Thanks for sharing your trip.
My husband and I actually had to go back to the d'Orsay twice when we went to Paris, because I fell asleep in the lobby during the first visit. Jet lag.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful building, but I love it best because it's manageable - I felt like we got a good experience with the exhibits without burning out like at the Louvre.
Gorgeous pictures. I love the d'Orsay! It's time to return.
ReplyDeleteOh to be in Paris! My favorite Museum there, mainly for the architecture!

Oh my gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe Musee d'Orsay is one of my favorite places in the world. I'm dying to take my children there (one day. In maybe ten years :) )
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your trip was so lovely!!
I am inspired by your trip and so happy for you, Stephanie. What a great time. Your sister is darling and I'm so glad you got to be there together. What an incredible experience.
ReplyDeleteIt's been about 10 years since I was at the Musee d'Orsay. I wouldn't have thought it had been so long--thanks for making me think of this. I'd better set an intention to get back there soon. It was, really, one of the best days of my life.
Love!

definitely one of my fav Paris Museums. I also love Musee Jacquemart Andre, well worth a look, its a divine old town house on blvd Haussman a walk from La Fayette. I was just in Paris for Easter, even though I have visited many times and done alot, I always come away wishing I had time for just a little more....
ReplyDeleteVanya, I couldn't agree with you more. The Musee Jacquemart-Andre is one of my favorites as well.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this museum! I still daydream about visiting again...
ReplyDeleteI was there in March 2011 and no photos were allowed. I'm jealous you got to take some!
