Mount Auburn Cemetary

• 08 May 2009

One of my favorite places to visit in Boston is Mount Auburn Cemetary. It's full of life, history, peace, beauty, and nature at its best. It's the only place you'll find a little fox running around, an owl hiding in the trees, and lily of the valley hugging the hillside...all within a few minutes' walk of each other.

Stopping by and enjoying a long walk in this beautiful place is a must when in the Boston area. It's not accessible by the "T", but if you have a rental car you are in luck! If hearing about Mount Auburn is new-to-you-news, read a little about it here for a minute. You'll see why it's such a unique part of history.

  1. I love it there also. I lived in Boston for four years and it still tugs at my heart whenever I hear/see anything Boston related!

    It is a beautiful place.

  3. You know, you've inspired me. I'll head over this weekend with my kids as a little mother's day gift to myself! I have to pinch myself sometimes that I'm so lucky to live in Boston! We love it here.

  5. Mt. Auburn is right on the border of my hometown and Cambridge...so nice to see it mentioned!

Just a note...If folks are "in town" visiting Boston. If you take the red line to "Harvard Square" and from there hop onto the "Watertown Square" bus you will travel right past the main entrance to the cemetery. It's a pretty bus ride and the bus itself used to be electrically operated (although it's been a while since I've rode that route).

On a good weather day I would say it's a lovely walk (maybe a little over a mile) from Harvard Square west. Gorgeous real estate and the charles river view... Happy visiting!

  6. It is, however, accessible by bus. You can take the 71 or the 73 bus from Harvard Square...about a five minute ride.
