stephmodo: Une Fete pour Susan

Une Fete pour Susan

• 06 May 2009

My dear friend Susan turned 30 this week and we planned a little fete in her honor. She is one of the nicest and most genuine people I've met. For her party we decorated with these pom poms (first discovered on Oh Happy Day last year) and they were my best versions yet. I think it's because I used 10 sheets of tissue instead of the indicated 8. My only regret is that I didn't make more. They look fantastic during both the day and during the night, but in different ways.

I used bud vases from Target ($2 each) and flowers from a friend's garden to garnish the table in a simple way. I wanted to make sure my guests could easily see each other across the table and reach plates of food easily so a shallow "centerpiece" was key. We gathered several tulips in a larger vase and used them in an adjoining room to tie everything together.

All these details were a lot of fun to put together and I know Susan enjoyed them...but the highlight of the evening was definitely the heart-shaped ice cream cake her husband made for her during his lunch break that day. How sweet is that?

PS I've posted more birthday party ideas for your viewing pleasure!

  1. That is so lovely. I'll have to make those pom-poms sometime soon - they are beautiful.

  2. I also love the pom-poms! I made some for my daughter's first birthday party in varying shades of pink. They are so cheerful - I hated to take them down.
