...how about you?

Suffice it to say I have a renewed appreciation for my high-powered dryer at home...this hanging-clothes-on-the-line-stuff takes forever! It's not quite as bad as the six years I spent hauling our family's laundry to the nearest laundromat but it's pretty darn close. I feel like I'm always doing laundry! I'm so thankful we went to great efforts to install a little dryer at La Maisonnette...our visitors will thank us :)

  1. Do you think hanging clothes out is also kind of enjoyable? I love the fresh air (in spring and fall at least)and thinking about my grandmother doing the same thing. I think her grown children gave her her first dryer when she was in her 70s. Bless her.

  2. But don't you love the smell of dry laundry that was dried outside? I love it! Any chance I get, I hang some of my laundry outside to dry in the sun. Nothing can beat that. And it's good for the environment too. :)

  5. While it does take lots of time, and definitely a re-ordering of priorities which can be frustrating when you're not in the habit, I actually have come to love hanging laundry. We've been living in Ireland since 2007 and, also, no dryer...it's now a way of life and I've come to appreciate how it forces me to slow down and breathe. While I completely appreciate the value it will have for your guests, consider involving your kids in the process...my 2 year old helps me hang laundry using accordian drying racks. He might do it for just a few minutes, but he knows when it's time to hang laundry and he's thrilled...! Thanks for the great photo!

  6. I had dreams of hanging a line in the backyard to line dry our laundry....I thought maybe it would make it more romantic or enjoyable. I too feel like the laundry pile is never-ever ending. Unfortunately the rain here makes it a bit impractical. I love this photo. I came back from visiting a friend's apartment in Paris where we washed dishes by hand and hung the laundry out to dry and it made me really appreciate not the appliances I have back home but the time they afford me to do other things...it was a nice reminder. I have come here via Pia (http://blog.piajanebijkerk.com/) and am enjoying your adventures.

  7. I love hanging clothes to dry but it is so time consuming and there's no instant gratification...towels are not fun to line dry though- they get all crunchy!

    Looks like a lovely spot!

  8. You are not the only one, not having the plumbing with only three days to go is "normal" in our way of renovating. Miraculously it will all fall together at the last minute. What beautiful laundry you have! Good luck!

  9. At school (in CH) I line dry all my clothes to save money (and also the clothes themselves! our machine and dryer must be from the 70s!). If you have an ikea near you, they have great family-load-sized drying racks. I have one that I bought for 15 CHF (or about $12) and I love it!
However, I do understand how sometimes you wish you could just throw everything in the dryer and forget it!

  10. I don't like line drying my laundry as I feel like the clothes get too stiff and they feel rough. I'm VERY particular about the texture of my clothes tho, so maybe other people don't find this to be a problem.
