The Husband and I stumbled upon this adorable shop last month while visiting New York. The stunning exterior draws you in, and then the simple, beautiful toys keep you there for awhile. I loved their display of play kitchenware in particular. I know my youngest girl would love to have pots and pans like this in her play kitchen. Does anyone know of an online {and reasonably-priced} source for similar toys? Playing Mantis does have a website, but they don't carry everything I saw in the store. I will say one thing though...their collection of mobiles is stunning.
You may try quiethourstoys.com or fatbraintoys.com. My 22m old loves "cooking" and we bought her the green toys cooking set a few months ago and she is getting the tea set for Christmas. They aren't quite as cute as the toys you found in NY, but I liked them because they are food safe (they're made from recycled milk jugs).
ReplyDeletewe are in the process of creating a kitchen for our 3 girls and i have turned to antique and thrift shops. i've found cookie cutters, glass milk bottles, a rolling pin, and misc real silverware for them to use. we also have tiny pink transferware plates and a sweet ironware milk jug. everything in the kitchen is beautiful and can find a place in our home when the girlies outgrow their play kitchen. :)

I don't know where you live in Salt Lake City but I saw your post about wanting to learn to speak French. Morningside Elementary school is a public school that has a French immersion program. They have open enrollment starting December 1st. They literally start the kids in 1st grade and ONLY speak to them in French. They go through this program for five years. By the time they are in Junior High school they should be fluent. If your child is in the program, you can volunteer in the classroom and pick up on the language. Just a thought. :)

I called playing mantis and they said they will gladly ship anything ( even if it is not listed on the website). The set I am in love with is under the category "wooden.". Kindof weird since it is a pot and pan set. It is only $29!
ReplyDeleteI had wondered while reading your blog what your children eat for meals? Are they all pretty good eaters? I know a lot of parents prepare one meal for the adults and an entirely different meal for kids. Do you believe in "kid food"? I like the idea of raising my daughter to like all different kind of foods. Any tips to get them eating with the adults?

ReplyDeleteGrace, I don't believe in kid meals. I work pretty darn hard to make a nice dinner every night and I like all my family members to enjoy it. Some they enjoy more than others, this is true. But I too think it's important to help them explore foods and learn to appreciate variety. It takes time but it can be done!
