stephmodo: Rigatoni with Sausage, Tomatoes + Basil

Rigatoni with Sausage, Tomatoes + Basil

• 22 June 2010

We are huge fans of pasta in this household...huge. Paired with a simple green salad and a crusty bread, it's the perfect meal. I've made this recipe twice in the past couple of weeks--that's how much we love it! In fact, my husband declared it the best pasta with red sauce I've ever made.

Today I'm sharing my recipe here...enjoy!

  1. Yes I make that dish a lot too. Using Italian pork sausage, crumbled (or sometimes sliced) with tinned tomatos, some chilli pepper and basil. Perfection, I agree. xoxo

  2. Yum! Will be adding this one to my list of new ones to try. Your pictures always look so tasty too. Another great pasta dish is this one http://www.williams-sonoma.com/recipe/baked-ziti.html. More of a cold weather dish, but very good none the less. I do put mine is a baking dish in the oven rather than the pan.

  3. That reminds me of a sauce my mother makes from scratch with the italian sausage ... this looks wonderful. Duly copied and I do believe it's what's for supper tonight! =:"~D

  7. I have rigatoni in the pantry, a huge basil plant at the ready.....I'm in....this is dinner tomorrow night! Thanks a million for the great idea! For the record, I think it would be awesome if someone with your good taste would team up with BustaMeal.....ever thought of it?

  8. Trish, I have no idea what BustaMeal is...

  9. Steph: bustameal is a web-based meal planning service. You enter in preferences and diet type and they will e=mail you weekly with a list of dinners, recipes and a grocery list. I love that the grocery list is in a format I can use on my iphone. Plus the recipes are on my phone so the kids can call out the directions while I cook! So cool. It has seriously changed my life. You can enter in your own recipes, too. I guess what I think it's missing is an editorial perspective, a personality you can relate to as a busy mom....I immediately thought of you. I'm just a customer, nothing to do with them other than use their service. Just goes to show, you can take the girl out of the PR firm, but.....:)

  12. I have made this recipe many times (since you first posted it 6 years ago!), and really enjoyed it! It's been a while, so I searched for the recipe to add the ingredients to my grocery list, and it's no longer on the Cafe Zupas blog. Any chance you would mind sharing it again? I can vaguely remember, but I don't want to mess up the perfect ratios of the ingredients! Thank you!
