How to Make Tin Foil Dinners + a Campout

• 20 July 2010

Last weekend while I attempted to "take it easy", my husband took our 3 children camping down south. I was bummed to miss out on the fun, but camping in one's 3rd trimester + early contractions don't exactly compute. It will be fun to return to this same spot all together as a family at some point...my kids apparently had a great time romping through caves with a Jr. Ranger, climbing trees, collecting rocks and of course digging in dirt.

Before the family took off with the teardrop trailer in tow, I helped my husband throw together some tin foil dinners. Boy those dinners taste like heaven when you're camping. Add in a crackling fire and beautiful setting and you have yourself one memorable meal. Not only are tin foil dinners simple to make, but they are easy to cook as well. Today over at Zupas I am interrupting my series on Healthy Breakfasts with this easy-to-understand tutorial on making delicious tin foil dinners. With camping season in full swing, I want to make sure I share this info with you as soon as I can!

  2. Ah! We make these too, usually at the end of our trip so we can throw in any leftover veggies. For some reason our family calls this Hunter stew even though it is not a stew. Not sure where the name came from!

  4. we always call them TFD's and they are delicious when you're camping :) sometimes we'll also core apples and put some butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in the middle and then cook those in tin foil too for dessert!

  8. Janna, it's a teardrop trailer my FIL found on Ebay I believe. While they are living out-of-the-country, we are "babysitting" it :) Lucky us!
