Pressing Reset
• 28 July 2010
Have you recently escaped to a remote location, sans cell phone coverage, internet access or even a land line? It’s quite refreshing don't you think? (Even if it’s a lot of work to get out the door). Well, our little family did just that last weekend and I found that taking a step back was not only a lot of fun for my family, but renewing for me personally. Kind of like pressing reset on life and my priorities.
My children enjoyed running around trying to catch squirrels, observing wildlife, hanging out by a fire, and canoeing; all with unkempt hair, soiled t-shirts and sooty faces (I did however make them brush their teeth often, much to their dismay ). It was great to feel so relaxed. Besides sharing part of the experience with dear friends, a highlight for us all centered around a big, lanky moose who kept us company for several hours. It was the most amazing thing to watch—a moose licked the same stump for hours and hours (apparently it was the site of an abandoned salt lick). We ate breakfast near the moose, lunch near the moose, and part of dinner with the moose before it wandered off at dusk. Incredible.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Not quite the same as a full-out rustic escape, but I took my kids to the park earlier in the week & they spent almost three house between a kite & three ladybugs.
ReplyDeleteI must be hankering for a holiday because I see pics like this and just melt. I think everyone needs to reset like that.
ReplyDeleteSimply ... Wow! I know we've got equally as remarkable scenery & wildlife in Australia, but somehow it looks far more spectacular when it's another country.
ReplyDeleteWhere is this beautiful place? Having just traveled through Utah on my to CA from Co I would love to come and spend some more time at this wounderful retreat.
ReplyDeletewonderful!
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteThis is place located up in the Uintas, about 20 minutes from the border of Wyoming (over near Evanston). Isn't it lovely?
I was going to ask the same thing - it looks absolutely stunning. The perfect place to press reset. Hope you are still feeling the effects : )

ReplyDeleteYou saw a moose! My wife Ashley was so hoping to see one on a recent trip to VT. I think maybe we had to go further north... or just be lucky. :)
