stephmodo: Menu of the Week

Menu of the Week

• 01 December 2010

You may have noticed I haven't featured a "menu of the week" post for some time now...like 2+ months at least. Well, to be honest I haven't been the most avid cook--between a newborn and a move there have been more frozen pizzas consumed around here than I care to admit! We are starting to get settled here in Seattle and amidst the unpacking, painting, and decorating, I am trying to get back into the kitchen again. I miss the process of preparing a delicious meal for my family and am ready to start sharing great food with you again. As promised, I am posting the menu we enjoyed last week so I can share recipe notes and feedback.

Herbed White Bean & Sausage Stew, Butter Lettuce Salad w/Balsamic Vinaigrette, Crusty Bread - really enjoyed this meal and will definitely make it again. Perfect cold-weather food and I just love white beans!

Rigatoni with Sausage, Tomatoes + Basil - a family favorite we return to after a couple of nights of trying new recipes. Everyone loves this meal--especially the kids.

Pasta Sauce with Ricotta, Olives + Fennel - a more sophisticated pasta for adults--kids not so much. My first attempt at a Daniel's Dish recipe from Elle Decor.

Cheddar Corn Chowder, Sour milk biscuits (so easy and so good!) - once you invest in a bag of organic, frozen corn from Costco, this is a great soup to make over and over. While it tastes better with white cheddar, you can substitute the same shredded cheese used in quesadillas if you already have that on hand. I add extra red potatoes for color.

Easy French Bistro Meal - I made this so often in France last year and I can't help but think of being there whenever we eat this for dinner. Try roasting winter's root vegetables with this comforting meal now that December is upon us.

Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes - because we all need to have breakfast for supper ("brupper") at least once a month! :)

  2. This is a little self-promoting, but if you like white beans, you must try this: http://icooktorelax.blogspot.com/2010/03/white-bean-soup-with-zucchini-rosemary.html

It's white beans with rosemary, zucchini, and kale. One of the very few meals that all three of my children will devour without any complaints!! Plus it's a favorite for my husband (and me!) as well.

  3. PS--I should also say I LOVE your menu of the week posts. The roasted tomato soup and grilled lime fish tacos are some of the most-requested meals in our home!

  5. Thanks for the inspiration. The pasta recipe looks especially amazing. I am going to try it tonight minus the fennel. I like fennel, but my husband and three kids do not.

  11. Steph--
Could you make your recipe links take us directly to the recipe's post at Zupas rather than just the Zupas blog home page? With older recipes (like the French Bistro Meal) you have to run through all of the archived posts to get to the one you want. Some of your older recipes I still haven't been able to access because my iphone keeps crashing when I try to go that far back in the archives. If Zupas hasn't contracted you to direct people to the home page, it would make things so much easier for your readers.
    THANKS!

  12. Tiff- I am about to make the change in the link so you can access the French Bistro meal directly. I'll try to be more aware of the link issue in the future and include direct links for easy access. Sorry about that!

  14. Stephanie, I was just sitting here this morning attempting to type up my dinner menu for the upcoming week. With all the "be here, do this, bake that, mom were are my tights, what do you mean you have a choir concert this Sunday????", I was drawing a total blank on the menu ideas. Going to your blog for a mental breather only to see your own menu ideas again got an "Oh thank You GOD!" from me. ... and a "Thank you Stephanie" :D

  15. I made the pasta sauce with ricotta for my family last night and it was very well received by my husband and three young children. Thanks for the dinner inspiration. It is always nice to be able to add a new recipe to our meal collection. After I read the cool story behind why the recipe was created, we have decided to refer to the meal as "punk pasta".

  16. I can't wait to try some of these. (And by the way, I added your rigatoni + sausage recipe to my repertoire a few months back and it has become a family favorite!) Thanks, as always, for inspiring me to make good meals for my little family:).
