stephmodo: Real Life Home No.3

Real Life Home No.3

• 10 February 2011

Continuing on with the newly-formed "Real Life Home" series...here is no.3:

For those of you just tuning in, this series showcases living spaces decorated by people like you and me--people who choose not to, or can't afford formally-trained interior designers; people who mix new finds with antiques and secondhand pieces from Craigslist (or the like). People who have figured out, on their own, what looks and feels good in their living space.

Today's "Real Life Home" marks the third living space featured in this series and is home to Kirsten Grove--creator of the Simply Grove blog. I had the chance to meet Kirsten at ALT last month and was thoroughly impressed with her style, friendliness and ability to balance life, work and family. Suffice it to say I learned a few things from her--she has a solid head on her shoulders that Kirsten! And seriously, is her home in Boise amazing or what? It just goes to show, you don't have to live in a schmancy urban environment to have a cool living space. You can create a stylish home anywhere you live; which, is such an important thing to remember.

View no.1 and no.2 in the series here.

  4. White is so sophisticated, so under-appreciated. It takes a great designer to pull it off so well!

  6. It was really great meeting Kirsten at Alt. You're right, she definitely has things together. And her home? Truly inspiring. I think I'm going to turn my books so the pages (instead of spines) show on all of our bookcases. Really lovely.

  7. Thanks so much Stephanie, for featuring my house!!! And thanks for the sweet comments!
Jenna... The side table to the left was my uncles... I stole it from him:) The other side table is a thrift find. I bought the chandelier from a show room and painted it a glossy black.

  8. Beautiful, calm and easy on the eye, I like houses that have a personal touch and says something about the people who are living in them to opposite very well designed spaces with the most expensive furniture you can get and cold like hospital.

  18. Christy, I love that site you sent me...some great finds and great prices. I've actually never seen Tolix knock-offs in person so I can't comment on their quality or anything. Sorry! I only have the real thing, as I was able to purchase them at the Sundance outlet in SLC for a great price. Anyway, I'm off to explore that site further. One last thought, you could always buy one and see what you think before purchasing an entire set. For that price, buying one is very doable and if you didn't like it for the kitchen/dining area, you could use it as a desk chair somewhere (or just an extra chair).

    Good luck Christy!
