Springtime Jaunt in Discovery Park

• 07 June 2011

Last week we ventured on a nature walk through Discovery Park with a family we know through our daughter's French preschool. It was such a hoot listening to 2 little girls babble in French for 2 hours straight as they wandered about smelling buttercups and picking tiny daisies in the grass. We are so grateful to have the chance to live right in Seattle, yet have such a beautiful place nearby to enjoy the outdoors. If any of you are considering a move to Seattle, move to Magnolia! I think you'll be happy here :)

And speaking of being happy, do you notice that your kids get along better when they are outside or is this just a phenomenon in my family? I feel like we should take more hikes/walks more often...particularly this summer when the kids won't have as much personal space because they're out of school. All I'm saying is don't be surprised if I'm heading out on a hike every day :)

I didn't know you were in Magnolia too! I live right across from Discovery and there's a trail from my neighborhood to the Ballard Locks! We love it too :) Hi neighbor. xo

I love the photo of the kids from behind, walking up the trail. I don't know why but I always take a photo of my people from that angle. There's something so charming about them from that angle.

And yes, we're spending LOTS of time outside already this year and what a joy it is. Bikes, scooters, skates, hikes really make life something special. And we enjoy each other more, spend less, breathe more, worry less.

Shannon, what a fun location! Maybe we will run into each other in the Village sometime...although I hope it's not the day I try to run just one little errand in my pj's :)

Shirley, I use a Canon XTI. Really basic. From Costco even. :)

Oh...I miss Seattle. We moved from there almost 8 yrs ago but lived there for three really fun action-packed years. Pre-kiddos. We lived IN (really - in the park) Colman Park in Leschi and it was such a treat to live in a place that was urban yet so natural. We're in Maine now, wouldn't trade it, but I do miss those views of Mt Rainier...walks along lake Washington. Have you biked w/your kids yet around Seward Park? It's a must! (PS: your blog is lovely!)

I think you're right, kids do seem to get along better outside. I love the pictures, and parks are great.
