stephmodo: Look for Less

Look for Less

• 02 January 2012

Do you remember that old TLC show, The Look for Less?  Ooh, I loved that show.  For those unfamiliar with it, basically a stylist showed an average gal how to achieve a polished, designer-y look on a budget (usually $50 - $75 per outfit).  Every now and then I spot something that reminds me of that show, and this week it's a popular dress at Anthropologie.

The Anthro version is priced at $188 and the budget version at Macys is on sale for a mere $50.  Besides the color, the dresses look practically identical.  So there you have it, a stylish, striped dress for less!  This comparison is making me think I need to consider department stores again.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I love both dresses! The Macy's dress is machine washable whereas the Anthro dress is dry clean only...another added bonus in my book!

  3. You are genius! I've been waiting for the anthro one to go on sale because this dress looks so versatile, flattering and comfy. I just ordered the Macy's one! I love me some black...

  5. REALLY cute dress, Steph!
NO more "smalls" left. Boo. I'm just a shortie :(
ON another note: I just got home from being out of town and thought your Christmas card was by far my favorite.
Thank you SO much for the personal thought and note. It really meant a lot. Plus, your fan is drop-dead gorg.
    XOXO

  6. Hey, ironic that you did a post on Macys BECAUSE I was just at the Bell Square one and noticed they have too much inventory, which prices will surely be slashed AGAIN in the coming weeks. I stopped in the coats section and didn't even see the other selection...I say we take a stab at it together and take one of these nights week 2-4 in January, what do you say?

  8. Where the Wild Things Are: I hear you on that one. I'm so tired of paying $15 to dry clean a dress. I seriously can't afford to have those kinds of clothes anymore!

KH: don't worry...if you love it and wear it often it'll end up being 25 cents per wear :)

Cher, I'm soooo happy to hear you took advantage of it!

Liz, drat. I'll keep my eyes peeled fore more good deals!

Sarah: I definitely think a night to hit sales is in order. Week 2 is good for me.

Kendall: you are probably right on!

  9. I just raided Dillard's for white dresses for the Alt party out of sheer desperation. To my amazement they actually had several contenders!

Speaking of...I'm attending your dinner on Wednesday! Looking forward to it. I thought the cooking sounded so fun.

  10. Wow guys! The dress is sold out now. Way to go. Y'all will be looking fabulous!

Molly, I too peeked at Dillards and found a great dress, in cream, but alas they didn't have my size. But I too was surprised at their great options. Who knew? Excited to see you at the dinner. It will be fun to cook for you guys!
