stephmodo: A Glimpse of Tuscany + a Good Pair of Shoes

A Glimpse of Tuscany + a Good Pair of Shoes

• 26 July 2012

I found this old photo the other day on an old laptop--it looks like my husband snapped it with his phone without me noticing.  Apparently, I was too busy documenting the gorgeous countryside with our one nice camera.  Seriously, the landscape was so beautiful it looked like an actual painting.  Unreal!

Taking a peek at this image reminded me how great it was to have a comfortable, versatile pair of shoes for that trip.  When traveling, never, ever underestimate the value of a pair of shoes that looks nice and is easy on your feet.  Blisters are the last thing you want to worry about when you're putting in miles exploring a new city.

That said, finding a sandal that is both stylish and comfortable can be quite a challenge; so I've compiled a little collection for you here.  Hopefully this list will save you hours of research and help make your day-to-day and all future vacations more enjoyable!

  1. Love this pretty pic and also can't emphasize enough the important of comfortable shoes. They're not sandals, but literally the only shoes I wear are AGL flats. They are pricey, but so worth it. I have a black and white pair I've had for YEARS and I wear them on average each 3x week. http://hkhousewife.com/travel/readers-query-traveling-shoes/

  3. Thank you so much for posting this! I remember looking at your photos from Italy and thinking how great your sandals looked. Do you happen to know what brand they were? Even though I'm sure they're not available anymore, it's nice to know the brand for future reference.

  5. Natasha, I'm going to check out that link. Thank you! You of all people know the importance of good shoes when traveling. You log more miles than anyone I know!

Anon, they were Privo by Clarks. Mary Jane style -ish. Check ebay too. I bought them 4-5 years ago.

Lulu, I feel the same way. Trying to justify another pair of sandals in a climate where I can only where them for 8 weeks :)

  7. Oh, Kork-Ease are so great. I tried on a pair (the Myrna sandal) when I was birthday shopping and they were the runner up. I ended up buying the Franco Sarto "Gia" sandal from Nordstrom and they're perfectly comfortable and cute (and affordable.. left with 2 pairs of shoes instead of one :). Just another to add to the list..

  8. Great roundup! I've had my eye on a few styles of Campers. I log many comfortable miles in my Saltwaters and Dansko clog sandals, but they are lasting too long. :) I want an excuse for new shoes!

  9. You're right...it does look like a painting. I love your shoe recommendations. At 5'10" I never wear heels, but love three of the flats, especially the ones you are wearing.

  10. I'm still mourning the loss of my favorite ever sandals that took me through a summer in Southeast Asia with my cousin Christine years ago. Such a sad day when they finally gave up. I've never found the perfect replacement, but thanks for helping in the search!
