Organizing Tip #22
• 12 February 2009
Use a "catch-all basket" for your living space.
Whether it's a woven basket, a laundry basket, or even a bag--everyone needs one!
I use this basket as mine. When it's downstairs, I throw in things that need to go upstairs. Then I take it upstairs and unload. It typically sits upstairs collecting things that need to go downstairs for a day or so and then when it's full, I take it downstairs to unload. What ends up happening is a constant cycle of cleaning up the clutter. It's one of those things that only takes a couple of minutes per day, literally, yet reaps a huge payoff as you rarely get to the point where you're going nuts with "stuff" everywhere.
If you have children, you'll want to use something they can carry. This basket is lightweight, yet sturdy, and includes two handles on the side that stretch and move easily for even the smallest of hands. Sometimes when the load is light, I ask my children to move the basket and then put away the items together. It takes them less than 5 minutes and keeps them occupied while I finish up dinner or what not.

I do the same thing, and it works like a charm. I also keep a big recycling bag in a closet upstairs, and whenever I come across something I don't need, use, or like, I toss it in there. When the bag is full, I take it to the Salvation Army. That way I don't see it and think, "I'll get back to it later." :) I love clearing the clutter!
ReplyDeleteDitto! I do the same thing. My bag is a great garden tool bag from Target.
ReplyDeleteI do this for shoes by my front door;however, it does get to full and then my kids have to take it upstairs and put all the shoes away.
ReplyDeleteThis basket is useful and beautiful at the same time, that's a great idea. I also love the school clock on the wall.
