I recently joined Twitter at the prodding of a good friend and the Husband (you can follow me here). I surprised myself...I really like it so far. I'm still trying to figure it all out, but so far so good. Here are a few reasons why I like Twitter:
1. With the "Tweetie" app on my phone, I can write little tidbits in 10 seconds flat. Now that's a mere pause at an intersection. Talk about a committment I can reckon with!
2. Not everything in life is worthy of an entire blog post, but that doesn't mean it isn't interesting, witty, funny, thought-provoking, informative or notable in some way. Twitter is made for stuff like that.
3. Twitter allows a personal peek into the lives of those you want to "follow".
What do you love about Twitter? (if you love it at all!)
My reasons for liking twitter are about the same. I use TweetDeck, and I love how easy it is to see everything that is going on. I really didn't get it until it was laid out horizontally.
ReplyDeleteIt also gives me a clear list of all my "mentions" (For readers who don't know what those are, it's when someone types @stephmodo or @designmom.) That way I able to thank that person.
I also love twitter because it allows you to get to know other bloggers on line. Sometimes we just don't have time to go to blogs, read them and comment, but twitter sort of puts you in circles with busy people who are doing exactly what you are doing. It's like going to a conference, or cocktail party (non-alcoholic, of course) with a lot of colleagues and networking, but in a realxed and social environment.
Whew! That was a long comment!
I love twitter because it keeps me in touch on a daily basis with all my family. My mom and dad, brothers, sisters and close friends all use it and I love hearing what's going on in their day!
ReplyDeleteSteph, I knew you would like facebok for those reasons as well. You really should have your tweets post to facebook also.
ReplyDeleteI love connecting with a whole bunch of my friends at once. It's a great way to see and share links. Traffic updates, news stories, lunch plans, they all work with Twitter.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite? You said it: sometimes I think of something funny to say but it's not long enough for a blog post.
Just remember, people can read what you're saying, Twitter is like a really big party where someone can overhear what you're saying. Act accordingly.
p.s. I had my Twitter connected to Facebook for a couple days, but I found that it was overwhelming and discourteous to my Facebook friends to keep them plugged in.
ReplyDeleteIf you're only tweeting once a day, that might be OK, but when you're tweeting often it gets to be too much. I also think that my Twitter and FB have different audiences. I sometimes cross post a tweet as a FB update, but only when it's appropriate.
Sometimes it's nice to get those silly things that float around in my brain "out there". You know?
ReplyDeleteIf you're on Facebook, you can automatically have Twitter update your FB status.
ReplyDeleteBut the reason I like it most is because of all the silly, fun, and sometimes useful links my husband is able to quickly send my way!
i've been skeptical, but maybe i'll have to check out this twitter thing...
ReplyDeletei haven't tweeted yet. i am just trying to stay afloat with the boys and the lovely travel schedule we have around here. when are you coming back? miss you!
ReplyDeleteI like reading tweets. It's on my list of things to do when we get back to NYC in September. I loved reading your blog as I planned our Paris trip. We had SUCH a fabulous time:)
ReplyDeleteNow we need to go back without the kids just to shop and eat....
