stephmodo: Fishs Eddy

Fishs Eddy

• 22 February 2010

When we visited New York last, my friend Kelsey recommended I stop by Fishs Eddy after wandering around the Union Square Farmer's Market. It was an excellent tip...this shop is now one of my NY favorites. If you're remotely into reasonably-priced housewares (including those that are vintage-inspired), then definitely stop by--it's convenient location right across the street from ABC Carpet & Home should seal the deal :)

Another New York favorite is the French Culinary Institute's training restaurant, L'Ecole. We enjoyed a lovely 3-course lunch for only $25. For fine dining in New York (or anywhere for that matter!), this is an incredible deal.

Also, many readers offered up their budget hotel recommendations for New York...valuable advice indeed. If you are planning a trip to the Big Apple, check 'em out here.

And of course, you must not miss the "New York: Reader Favorites" post...a list like this is priceless! Especially if this is not your first trip there and don't feel pressure to see all the touristy sites, i.e. you've-been-there-and-done-that. Next time, I'll know where to eat and how to spend my time--can't wait!

  1. Oh good, I'm so glad you went to L'Ecole. It's a must stop for us then we wander up the street forever until we hit Fishes Eddy and ABC Carpet&Home. (With a quick stop into Dean & DeLuca for photos of gorgeous produce and a sample or two of something sweet!)

  2. I love Fishes Eddy - and the staff have always been friendly and helpful when I've been there! I went in with a crazy big stroller once and they helped me around the whole place... I still smile when I use the cups I chose during that visit!

  3. My friend sent me those polka dot glasses for my birthday last year and I LOVE them. They are my absolute favorite part of dinner every day--getting out those beauties and setting them on the table makes me smile every time. Never been to the real store--maybe some day.

  4. It's so great that your friend recommended Fishes Eddy. She's a good friend indeed! I live in NYC and it's a frequent stop of mine.

Since I'm an interior designer, one of my favorite products from there are different sized platters that feature architectural floorplans. They're quite unique!

  5. I love Fishs Eddy! Once, when I only had 1 kids and a LOT more time, I planned this baby shower for my friend. I decided we HAD to have these tall and skinny glasses to serve lemonade in (They had been in a Martha Stewart Weddings issue). So I special ordered about 25 from Fishs Eddy. Now I cart the huge box of them around with us every time I move.

  8. I'm with Joan! After seeing those jadeite-esque mugs I went searching the Fishs Eddy site to no avail. Do you have any idea what their name is?

  9. Joan, Anna: Like many small retailers, I'm sure not everything they carry in their stores is on their site. BUT, I bet if you called the store and described the item, they'd be happy to allow you to pay over the phone and ship it to you. Just a thought!

  13. My husband and I just got back from a weekend in NYC and I wanted to let you know how much we took advantage of your great recommendations. Fishs Eddy, L'ecole, Clinton St. Baking Co, Cafe Habana but sadly ran out of time before making it to ButterLane. But now we have an excuse to go again!
