stephmodo: Savoring Each Phase

Savoring Each Phase

• 10 May 2010

After hearing more than a handful of seasoned mothers share drama-filled teenage tales, I've decided to never wish away my children's youth. Yes, young kids are taxing, and yes, they are an incredible amount of work, but they are also the sweetest they will probably ever be! I am trying to savor this time, despite it's difficulties, by documenting a few things that have meant a lot to me.

Last year my sweet son constantly gave me flowers, leaves, or little trinkets he found. I never, ever tired of hearing, "Here Mommy...this is for you". Oh, how my heart melted. I decided to start taking pictures of these little gifts as soon as he gave them to me. Most of the images I have are blurry, and taken with my phone (a little too closely I am realizing now). But, they are the sweetest record I have of this wonderful stage. Who knows if he'll ever say those words to me again? I made an 8 x 10 collage of the images and then printed out a few copies for memory's sake (basically like I did here for art).

What things are you doing to document the sweet moments with your children?

  2. I LOVE that idea. I have had an amazing collection of leaves, blades of grass, and dandelions brought to me by my sweet boy. I may have to copy you--I never get tired of it either.

  4. This is such a great idea. I always feel like I'm not treasuring those little gifts enough. Now I have a way to do that and it will be fun to show her when she's older all the little things she gifted.

  6. Country Girl: I don't know about the wonderful mother part, but I'm trying to at least preserve what could end up being his sweetest stage! Believe me, I have much room for improvement :)

  7. You will continue to have those "sweet moments" as your kids grow. I had one of those sweet moments with my 18 year old son yesterday and so will you!

  10. I have a friend who has a large glass vase that she throws all of her treasures in. She has three boys so it is getting quite full.
