stephmodo: Baby Update + Maternity Photos

Baby Update + Maternity Photos

• 16 July 2010

A few of you requested a baby update...here it goes:

Around 26.5 weeks I went in for an additional ultrasound and during the procedure they discovered the umbilical cord was wrapped around my baby's neck 2 times. Needless to say I was extremely worried. So, for the past 3 weeks I've visited a high-risk pregnancy office for thrice weekly non-stress tests, which is an ironic term for something so stressful if you ask me. The good news is that so far the baby looks great and I am feeling more calm about the situation. They are even reducing my stress tests to twice weekly instead. The bad news is that I'm so worried about everything that I'm starting to have contractions...even while lying down during these NST's. So now I'm working on "taking it easy", whatever that means. Never a dull moment as a mother I tell ya!

On a lighter note, I asked Justin Hackworth to take some maternity photos for me this year. I've never had professional images taken while pregnant, and thought it would be a great idea; that is, until it came down to the wire. I started creating excuses in my mind as to why I should cancel--I felt too big, I didn't have a cute dress from Anthropologie to wear, I didn't like my hair (silly me...a haircut fixed that right up!) and let's be honest, everything feels overwhelming when you are in that third trimester. But, I did it anyway...and I am so very glad we made it happen. These images Justin shot are priceless and there is no doubt in my mind I will be more than grateful for these images down the road, as they document an important part of my personal history as a mother. As an added bonus I scheduled the session to take place when my husband was out-of-town so I could surprise him...I highly recommend this scenario :)

You can take a peek here if you'd like.

  7. Stephanie - the photos are gorgeous! So wish I had done something like that - but I just looked so bloated and gross, I never wanted a camera near me. Hindsight, oh well.

I'm so sorry to hear about your stress - I pray that all goes well - hang in there! I had some similar issues with our last little guy and I'm with you, those non-stress tests are anything but non-stressful! Best, best wishes going your way.

  10. But did these pictures show you that you're not so big and just as stunning without an Anthropologie dress? I love them! It's amazing that you went from intimidated to THIS. And how fun to make them a surprise.

I wished we talked more about this baby. Anything off is just awful. But lucky for you to catch this early!

  13. Totally understand the pre-photo shoot panic. I go through it every time - a complete meltdown. Add pregnancy into that and it might just push me over the edge. :) Way to push through it. It's always worth it in the end.

These are really lovely! Best wishes with the rest of your pregnancy.

  14. just visited Hackworth's site and noticed that Patrick at Shep Studio does your hair. oh, how i miss him so. he used to do my hair when i lived there. let's just say my hair hasn't been the same since i moved. ;(

  15. Sometimes the more prenatal information we get, the scarier it gets. My second out of 4 babies was born (via a normal, natural water birth) with cord wrapped twice around her neck. If I'd know in advance, I would have been panicked too - good that you have that extra monitoring, and of course, you get to feel those treasured kicks for reassurance. I hope you can relax, I'm sure all will be well. The photos are adorable - what a delightful surprise for your husband!
