Repetto

• 30 September 2011

One boutique in Paris I find intriguing is Repetto, the famous maker of ballerina flats and pointe shoes.  I've yet to walk inside, but I've passed one after hours and it looks like a tiny piece of heaven all lit up in satin, ribbon and bows.  Their storefronts are so intoxicating that you're that much more likely to purchase a pair of shoes because of them (that is, if you make it there during business hours!). If you've ever donned a pair of Repettos yourself, would you say they are as amazing as they're famed to be? Inquiring minds want to know...

More pretty Repetto photos after the jump...consider these your "shot o' pretty" for the weekend.  Just click on "read more" to see more storefronts and pretty shoes.

  1. That is a stunning display window. I've been considering getting a pair for a few months. Still haven't done it, but those red beauties are tempting me.

  3. I once found a pair of Repetto's for $30 at Anthro! I have no idea why they were marked down so much, but I snatched them right away and wore them for years. Unfortunately they are long worn-out, but I still dream about them! They are so soooo comfortable.

  4. how do repetto's wear? i am a nut for ballet flats but i almost destroy them with all the walking i do. i have to get new ones 2 times a year. i am not sure about spending that kind of money on shoes that i will have to buy again in a few months. what do you think? do they last? are they worth it? x

  5. It's so ironic...I was just this morning (in the very wee hours) contemplating a pair of Repetto ballet flats (I've never had a pair). Have you? Do you love them?

  7. I was in Paris in May and spotted the Repetto store. Their displays are so enticing! I took a peek inside and it's even harder to resist their shoes when you see shoes in every colour of the rainbow spread out on their tables.

Ultimately though the price tag put me off, especially since they feel quite flimsy (although a true leather so they will mould to your feet apparently). Like FanFamFun said, I love ballet flats but need a durable pair. I bought a pair from Geox instead that are very comfortable and have better support in the soles. They were an 'investment' as well but I feel like they'll last longer!

One day, maybe, if I win the lottery I'll buy a pair in every colour!

  9. I was lured in by the beauty of the Repetto shops in Paris and bought a pair this spring. They come in such an array of colours. The leather is buttery soft, so no break-in period needed. However, the soles are very thin so I don't find them great for walking longer distances. You get the shoes in a sleek black box with magnetic closure, lined inside with pink tissue. The shopping bag is white with a pink ribbon closure like on a toe shoe. So pretty. Are they worth over $200. Eh, probably not, but I cannot resist a lovely, ballet-y store.

  10. I hopped in the store in Paris in June and it was so overwhelmed by Japanese tourists buying up ballet flats in hordes that I couldn't get close to trying a pair on! There were so many gorgeous styles. And the ballet-inspired clothes were so lovely, too. ::le sigh::

  11. I love me some Repetto! I'm on pair number 9 (and counting), and that's just the BB's. Luckily, you can find good deals online now from various stores. Flimsy? Yes. Expensive? Mais, oui. Worth it? YES.

  14. Alright girls...curiosity is killing me now! I love hearing your comments, advice and in some cases, affection for these pretty shoes. I hope to visit on Friday and then let you know how it all works out.

    Thanks again!

  15. Jora,

I didn't end up making it to Repetto (my traveling companions weren't super interested), but I did talk to a few locals who poo-pooed the shoes. Said they were too thin. I'm not sure where I stand just yet as I'd love to see them in person. Hopefully the next time I get over there the exchange rate will be more favorable? :)

    xo
