Crossing to Safety
• 20 January 2009
This is the perfect time of year to revisit one of my all-time favorite books...Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner. It is the only book I've read multiple times, in fact. So, if you're looking for a good read (also a great way to cure the January doldrums!), consider giving it a try.
Back me up sistahs.
I also enjoyed "Where The Bluebird Sings to the Lemonade Springs" by Wallace Stegner. Not a novel, but a wonderful read for anyone who loves the West. By the way, the matryoshka party was adorable.
ReplyDeleteI've been making my way through all of Wallace Stegner's books...and i've loved every one of them.
ReplyDeleteWe reorganized the bookshelves upstairs by genre last night and I put the stegners next to each other- crossing to safety and angle of repose. Even though I just read Crossing to Safety last year I was really thinking of picking it up again! It just takes me to another place and time that I love...
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestion....one of my all time favorites, and just what I need for this crazy inversion! ss
ReplyDeleteAmy cries whenever she reads this.
ReplyDeleteOh, I loved this book when I read it the first time - wow, that was 2002! - so yes, I must go back and read it again. Thanks for reminding me of it! (And I recently re-read Angle of Repose, and it meant many different things to me the second time than it did the first. Love books like that, that speak to you in different ways at different points in your life.)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book indeed.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this book I became a BIG fan off Wallace Stegner. I should re read it.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, it's been many years since I read this book - the first Stegner book I ever read. It is still my favorite of his, though I know Angle of Repose is more famous (and it was certainly an amazing book). Big Rock Candy Mountain nearly did me in though - it was so heartbreaking I haven't read a Stegner book since!

Would it be a good vacation book? I'm dreaming of Spring Break in Mexico! I've never read a book by that author, but you've mentioned him before.
ReplyDeleteI adore this book...a must read for those who haven't.
ReplyDeleteWhen asked my favorite book, sometimes I say Angle of Repose, and sometimes I say Crossing to Safety. It's just too hard to choose between them.
ReplyDeleteI love this book!
So funny, we just picked this for my book club. I've already read it a few times and am so excited to read it again.. it might be my most favorite book ever.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVED this book and I should re-read, although I don't usually re-read books, this is timeless classic!
ReplyDeletethis is one of my top 3 favorite books of my life.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading this book and loving it, but now I've forgotten the story line. Maybe I should read it again.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. I am new....came over from Happy Day.
