Menu of the Week
• 16 December 2009
A little preface about the "menu of the week" posts for those of you just tuning in...I write these posts not because I think it's important to share what we are eating; rather, I think (and hope!) that many people appreciate the new ideas and recipes presented. Sometimes we find ourselves in a rut, only making the same handful of recipes we've made for months, or even years. When we see what other families are eating for dinner, it makes cooking wholesome meals seem doable and often sparks a general interest in trying something different.
Discovering new, delicious recipes is one of my favorite things to do, yet old-favorites certainly have their place. Typically when I meal plan, I write out 5 meals (I figure one night we'll eat "Brupper" and the other "leftovers"); three or four are meals I've tried before and the other 1 or 2 are recipes that are new. Sometimes I make them again, and sometimes I don't, but teaching kids (and husbands!) to appreciate variety is a good thing :)
This week's menu:
Perfect Roast Chicken, Roasted Potatoes and Asparagus with Lemon + Pine Nuts
White Cheddar Corn Chowder, Mixed Greens with Dijon Vinaigrette and Cloverleaf Rolls
Homemade Cheese Pizza with Veggie Sticks + Fruit Wedges
Slowcooker Beef Stew with Rosemary Corn Muffins
Couscous + Parsley-Encrusted Fish, Salad, Herb Roasted Potatoes
Dessert: Bittersweet Molten Lava Cakes with Haagen-Daas Vanilla Swiss Almond ice cream
I love all things food. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love that you share your menu plans sometimes. They inspire me. This time I am particularly excited to try the roast chicken and the asparagus recipes. Yum!
ReplyDeletewe make that roast chicken, the corn chowder, and a favorite beef stew recipe also. they are all three favorites and we eat them several times during the fall and winter. I must try the fish!
ReplyDeletei love your recipes! i made your Quiche Lorraine just a little while ago...its the best i've ever tasted!!
ReplyDeleteLove the fish, we make them often at the moment as my kids LOVE them and it is summer here (Sydney, Australia).
ReplyDeleteI love menu planning, just focuses the mind on food!!

You are so right on about getting in a rut. I have found going to the grocery store with a friend also helps me to get out of that rut. I usually find some new products that I haven't tried, or new recipe, or even a new form of the same old thing that I have been making, when I shop with a friend. Thanks for sharing, I am thinking that corn chowder is calling out for me to try it!

Ditto about the rut. I really like it when you post your recipes because every recipe I try of yours is a hit with my family. I am looking forward to trying the white cheddar corn soup - sounds incredible!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I love when you share your menu because it inspires me to cook wholsome, natural food and gives me new ideas. These posts are some of my favorite.
